I work as a specialist substance misuse nurse within a liver transplant team. I regularly see people who need a liver transplant as a result of a combination of HCV and alcohol use. I have been shocked by just how many of those people say that thay have never been advised that they should address their alcohol use, and are not aware that if you have HCV and you drink at more than minimal levels, your liver disease may well progress considerably more rapidly than it otherwise would. I'm sure that you are all aware of this, but I have come across drug workers who don't consider alcohol use to be a part of their remit and so don't ask about it.
